Eyesight Protection Tip #10: Spinach for Your Eyes

Spinach for eyesight protection

Studies showed that having spinach twice a week may avert macular degeneration and cataracts which are age-related.

The Filipino term for spinach is kangkong. Sadly, I am not a big fan of this veggie. But after learning its benefits, I will start teaching my taste buds to like spinach for the sake of the health of my eyesight.

But what's in spinach that makes it beneficial for the eyes? It has high amount of lutein that aids in safeguarding the macula from oxidative stress and high-energy photons of blue light.

How To Prevent Dry-Eye Syndrome?-- Eyesight Protection Tip #3

Eyesight Protection

Consumption of fish twice a week is said to reduce the risk of dry-eye syndrome (dry eyes), a condition in which tear production is decreased.

In that case, I don't have to worry about dry-eye syndrome because we eat fish almost every day. Fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids that support normal development of eyes.

You can try fish-oil supplements if you dislike fish.

Sweet Potato for improving night vision

One way to improve night vision is to eat sweet potatoes. In the Philippines, we are fortunate to have agricultural lands suitable for growing sweet potatoes or kamote in Tagalog and Bisaya. This root crop is rich in Vitamin A that makes it helpful in improving and protecting eyesight. But do not eat too much of it. You might end up farting all night.
