Laxatives may not always be the right solution for constipation. In fact, you might not need it. One of the remedies for constipation to help you have a regular bowel movement again is to eat more fiber and drink more fluid. Fiber absorbs water. It enhances digestion thereby making your stool softer and bulkier.

Fiber as one of the remedies for constipation

  • Take high-fiber bran cereal. Look for a product with insoluble fiber. It adds bulk and heps stool to move through the digestive tract quicker. Start with a small serving first to avoid bloating and stomach cramps. This is especially important if you are not used to having more fiber in your diet.
  • Eat dried beans, oats and nuts. They are said to be good sources of soluble fiber, ergo, remedies for constipation. This type of fiber turns into gel when inside the intestines. It softens the stool.
  • Consume flaxseeds. They are great remedies for constipation as they are not just high in fiber but they are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are good for your heart.
Apart from fiber, coffee is also a remedy for constipation. It stimulates the colon, thereby, inducing bowel movement. Dandelion tea is a great alternative to coffee. It has a mild laxative effect that can alleviate your constipation.

In addition to the above mentioned remedies for constipation, getting a regular exercise is also good for your digestion. You do not need to go to the gym. A morning walk will do to mitigate your problematic digestive system.
