Nutrition Facts: Things That You Should Check on the Label



Knowing the nutrition facts about any food has become important to many individuals nowadays. More and more people are now aware of the foods that they should eat. Fortunately, packaging of food gives out advice on calories and servings. The new label regulations encourage manufacturers to provide facts about the nutrition included in their product.

But what should you check on the label to find out about its nutrition facts?

Calories. According to health experts, adult should only take at least 2,000 calories a day. Unfortunately, almost all adults are eating more than 3,500 calories each. Thanks to fast foods and junk foods.

Sugar content. It is essential to check on how much sugar is included in the package. Sugar is calorie high. If you are on a diet, you should avoid sugary food.

Fats. Good foods are low in saturated and trans fats. They also contain less cholesterol. but you should not avoid fats all together as your body needs it too. What you should eat is polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats. The nutrition facts on the back of the label will help you know how much fat is present in that package.

Salt. Salt intake should not exceed 2,300 milligrams a day. This is to reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid processed foods as they have high salt content. Foods that are high in potassium can counteract the effects of salt.

But knowing the nutrition facts of a certain food is not enough to help you achieve a healthier body. it is also important that you engage in regular exercise and eat a balanced diet.
